Love or Hate HR: An Integral Part of Business

About The Book

HR has come a long way and evolved as a function and as an integral part of business.

However, HR as a function has constantly been in the center of the storm. No other function has  been under the scanner and beaten as HR (very often by the HR fraternity themselves), to the extent its very existence is questioned.

A lot has been said and written on the effectiveness of HR role and what HR professionals need to do to remain relevant to business. “Anyone can do HR” to “What does HR Do?” Or “HR does not understand business” has been the buzz over the years. Several soul-searching articles, blogs, deliberations, discussions, and workshops in the national and global platforms continue to dissect and analyse HR role and its future.

The author with more than 3 decades experience in leadership roles in HR has witnessed and the many challenges HR has faced during different phases of the business cycle. This unique compilation presents the views, opinions of the numerous HR luminaries, practitioners and stakeholders which has seamlessly assimilated with her own insights and learnings about the ever-changing HR role. It is not intended to portray HR as a “poor me and helpless bystander” or to spell doom for HR. Nor is the intent to sermonise on the HR strategy and transformation agenda but to objectively introspect on the criticism HR has faced over the years from its stakeholders viz employees, business and its own predicament and challenges in effective discharge of its role. Illustrations, anecdotes, narratives, quotes and practical insights have been interwoven in the narrative to demonstrate the many incongruities and ambiguity around HR role and to underpin the relevance and importance of HR in fast changing business scenario… but in a new avatar.
